How To Organize A Nightstand With Drawers – Bedside Table Organization Ideas

May 9, 2022 by Hope

Currently, I am going through this stage in my life where I want everything to have some sort of order and be less cluttered. When I started diving into this process of organizing and decluttering our home; I started pulling out everything!! Not realizing how large of a task this was to tackle. Every room and area needed to be purged and organized to have some sort of function for the family or each individual.

Since all of the tasks just seem too much to tackle in a few hours, I decided to organize my nightstand. The bedside table was something that I used every single day and it needed function.

Night stand organization

I want to share some ideas and tips on organizing a nightstand with drawers. A nightstand is a great place to start! It is not overwhelming and it is something that you use every day.

This post may contain affiliate links. Meaning there is no extra cost if you use them. I will receive a small commission if you choose to use them, which helps support my blog. Thank you!

Pull Everything Out

I pulled everything out of my nightstand. This allowed me to start with a clean slate and to see all that I had. Clearing out the drawers I noticed I had a lot of duplicate stuff. Some things I was aware of because they were my faves and other items were things that I just didn’t use or never cared to use again.

With the duplicate items, it may help to have a separate area to store extras. This will keep you from overbuying items that you do not necessarily need.

Clean and wipe down drawers inside out. Add contact paper of your preference to line the drawer for protection of the inside of your drawer and your items.

I pulled out everything from my nightstand and placed it on my dresser. I grabbed random bins to place everything in before sorting.

Purge And Sort

Go through the items that you pull out of your nightstand and see what you use on the regular (be honest with yourself). If you will not use it, then toss it or give it away.

Sort like items together in groupings. For example, hand lotions, chapstick, books, pens, and wipes. Check to see what is old, you no longer need, or like.

Place those items in a bag or bin to give away or throw them away.

What Do You Use

What do you use on the regular and use getting ready for bed or need at your fingertips? For example items such as lotion, water, cough drops, facial tissue, medication, phone charger, pen, notebook or etc. Those are the items that you should have stored inside your nightstand.

Keeping my deodorant inside my nightstand is ideal for me because normally I am getting dressed by my bed. The placement of the deodorant works perfectly for me based on my habits.

Personally, I had most of these items inside my bedside table but I did not have any organization and everything was cluttered.

Map Out Your Space

Mapping out the space that you want to organize. You can do this visually, by drawing it out on paper, or physically by (fitting the items/or storage container) in the drawer.

By mapping out your space, it will allow you to see how much space you actually have. Also what storage containers you would need before purchasing them.

Make A List

Making a list will help cut down the trips to the store, yard sells, or thrift store. It will help you not to forget anything that you took note of in your head.

Creating a list will help with staying within budget and buying things that you did not plan to purchase.

Some items that I did consider placing inside my nightstand are a flashlight (I will add one), batteries, remote control, bottled water, mints, baby wipes, a pocket knife, and a taser. Add what you would like.

The items that you keep inside your nightstand and what you use to organize your nightstand are limitless. Make sure to keep items inside your bedside table that you frequently use. If you find that you do not use them as often remove them.

Get creative! The feeling of having order will truly bless you, more than you know!
