How to create a coffee bar in your home

March 12, 2021 by Hope

Creating a coffee bar or station in your home is very convenient. It is almost a must if you have a deep love for coffee. My love for the coffee bar is deeper than my like for coffee. I know silly, right?!

Seeing all of the cute and practical items that are found throughout the department and home decor stores; just screams CREATE A COFFEE BAR! Lol! Also, I had this rolling kitchen island that I had in the middle of the kitchen that I was a little tired of looking at and needed a new look/feel so I moved it around until I found the perfect spot.

I found the perfect spot in our everyday eating area in our kitchen. Kitchen bar carts or kitchen islands are great coffee bar furniture ideas. Most carts have drawers and cabinets which makes it great to store and organize all of your coffee/tea/cocoa bar supplies.

Because venturing in the new rim of creating my own coffee bar. I had to feel my way through what worked for me and others in my family that used the coffee bar occasionally when needed.

I want to share with you some tips and ideas on how to create a home coffee/tea/cocoa bar ideas.

Stock Items You Love

Stock you bar or space with items that you love. Use your favorite coffee, creamer, sweetners, stirrers, mug…all the favorite things!

  • Coffee all varieties (K-cups, coffee, tea or cocoa)
  • Creamer (powder and mini liquid pods can store in the cabinet or drawer)
  • Sugar, sweetener (liquid or individual packets), honey
  • Stirrers and/straws
  • Favorite mugs
  • Any sweet treats (if you like)

Organization

Figure out where do you want to place your coffee bar/station. You can use your kitchen counter, bar cart, kitchen island or a cabinet. Whatever location that you choose to have you coffee bar/station make sure that you have items that will help organize your space.

Dollar Tree is a great place to find budget friendly finds to help with organization. The small drawer organizer is perfect to keep you K-cups, tea bags, sweetener packets, creamer pods, stirrers and etc. all together with creating a mess.

Jars and canisters are really nice to keep everything with a tight seal to keep things fresh.

You can find really nice jars, canisters and etc in just about every store from Walmart, Dollar General, Aldi, Home Goods, Marshalls, Target, and more.

It may be best to find all of the items that you love and stock up on them first. Then find containers and organizers according to those items. I can’t tell you how many times I have purchased something and tried to make the items fit according to what I already purchased. It works out sometimes and others it does not.

Coffee Appliances

Of course you need to have something to make your coffee or teas. Whether it is a small traditional drip coffee maker, Keurig, espresso machine, coffee press or etc. Purchase what you like and what you will use.

We are very simple coffee drinkers and do not have it a lot so a small Keurig works great for us. My Mom on the other hand has several different coffee makers. She loves coffee and it is a must for her!!

Decorations

This to me is the fun part! Decorations!! Today you can find so many types of coffee décor in many stores. From signs, pictures, jar, canisters, or containers made specifically for a coffee area/bar/station.

In addition you can add little potted faux plants and flowers to add a softness and colors.

During the different seasons, you can carry out different themes. Last Spring I decorated our coffee bar with lemons and the colors of yellow, white, and navy. It was certainly given the bar a fun and refreshed look for the Spring.

This Spring season I chose to go with a neutral palette.

Functionality

Make sure that your bar or station area is functional. Not just pretty but also functional with the items that you use on a day-to-day basis. The coffee bar should not be cluttered and messy.

Using tier trays are a great way to free up space on your bar or counter without laying everything out. It also created different heights which create interest and the freedom to decorate each level.

Having a tray or container for quick breakfast and coffee snacks is convenient while you are making your tea or coffee.

I like to add a cake dome to the bar sometimes to keep donuts, cinnamon rolls, pinwheels or pound cake slices.

I really love the versatility of having a coffee, tea or cocoa station in the home. You can do it all up or make it super simple! It is totally up to you.
